Perform and evaluate an annual water supply (fire flow) comparison test for a sprinklered property

Steps

  1. Pull the original hydraulic design calculation and/or original acceptance flow-test data used when the system was designed
  2. Conduct a current flow test at the same test hydrant(s)/points used originally, recording static, residual, and flow readings
  3. Plot the new supply curve and compare it to the original design demand curve to confirm available supply still meets or exceeds system demand
  4. Investigate significant drops (commonly flagged around a 10% pressure loss at flow) -- main breaks, closed valves, new development draw-down, or internal main obstruction
  5. If supply has degraded below system demand, notify the owner and AHJ since this affects the system's ability to perform as designed, independent of any sprinkler-side deficiency
