Steps
Maintain a list of manufacturer brand names your shop services (e.g., Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, GE)
On a recurring schedule, call https://www.saferproducts.gov/RestWebServices/Recall?format=json&Manufacturer={brand}&RecallDateStart={last-run-date} for each brand to pull only recalls published since the last check
Store the RecallID values already seen so re-running the query does not create duplicate alerts
Push each new recall's RecallTitle, Hazard, and RecallURL into the team's dispatch/CRM notes so technicians can flag affected units proactively
Review the Remedy field to know whether CPSC directs consumers to a repair, refund, or replacement program
Known gotchas
RecallDateStart filters by the date the recall was announced, not by manufacture date/serial range, so applicability to a specific unit still needs manual confirmation
The response defaults to XML if the format=json parameter is omitted
