Steps
Go to CPSC's recall search or the Swimming Pools recall category on cpsc.gov, and/or SaferProducts.gov, to search by product type (drain covers, pumps, ladders, etc.), brand, or date.
Cross-check any drain cover or suction fitting against the current recall list before installing it or during a VGB compliance inspection — CPSC has issued numerous drain-cover recalls specifically for violating VGB anti-entrapment standards, including several import/marketplace recalls in 2025-2026.
Report a suspected unsafe or recalled product via SaferProducts.gov or the CPSC hotline (800-638-2772).
Set up CPSC recall email alerts if managing pools or pool products on an ongoing basis, since new pool-product recalls are issued frequently.
Known gotchas
Recalled drain covers are frequently sold under many different private-label/import brand names on marketplaces like Amazon — matching by generic appearance is not reliable; check exact model/manufacturer markings against the specific recall notice.
A product not appearing on the recall list is not the same as a confirmed VGB-compliant product — a non-recalled cover can still be non-compliant if it was never certified to the current ANSI/APSP/ICC-16 standard in the first place.
