Identify whether nearby lines are insulated or uninsulated and determine their voltage
Apply minimum clearances: 3 feet for insulated lines under 300V; 10 feet for insulated lines 300V to 50kV; 10 feet plus 0.4 inch per kV over 50kV for insulated lines above 50kV; 10 feet for uninsulated lines under 50kV; 10 feet plus 0.4 inch per kV over 50kV for uninsulated lines above 50kV
If the required clearance cannot be maintained, contact the utility or electrical system operator to de-energize, relocate, or install protective coverings on the lines before erecting closer
Document utility notification and confirmation of de-energization or protective covering before proceeding with reduced clearance
