Steps
Apply to become a certified Opentrack integration partner through Cox Automotive/Dealertrack rather than expecting open self-serve API keys — certification is required before your app is an approved integration.
Obtain the Opentrack Partner Setup guide and per-module API method documentation (e.g., the Add API method) covering the specific area you're integrating (Customers, Vehicles, Deals, Accounting, Service, Parts).
Build and test against Dealertrack's certification environment, since production dealer connections are only enabled after passing Opentrack certification testing.
Implement the specific data flows you need — e.g., pulling deal and repair-order data out, or pushing customer/vehicle updates and service appointments in — using the method-specific request/response formats from the Opentrack docs.
Coordinate with each individual dealership's Dealertrack admin to enable your certified integration on their DMS instance, since certification approves the integration but each dealer still has to turn it on.
Known gotchas
This is a certification-gated partner program, not an open developer API — budget for a review/testing cycle with Dealertrack before you can go live with any dealer.
Even after your integration is certified, each dealership must individually enable it in their own Dealertrack DMS — certification doesn't grant blanket access to all dealers.
Opentrack is one of several DMS integration paths in the Cox Automotive/dealer-tech ecosystem (alongside CDK Fortellis and the Reynolds Certified Interface for other DMS platforms) — confirm which DMS a given dealer actually runs before assuming Opentrack applies.
