  2. Calibrate the instrument against a reference standard with the same substrate conductivity/alloy as the parts being measured before taking readings
  3. Take measurements on reasonably flat areas, since curvature and edge proximity distort eddy-current readings
  4. Use a different method for chemical conversion coatings or highly curved/small parts, since B244 cannot reliably measure coatings that thin or geometry that irregular
  5. Record results against the coating class's specified minimum thickness tied to the anodizing type/class selected
