  1. Reference ASTM A123/A123M (current edition A123-24) for hot-dip zinc coatings on fabricated iron/steel products including structural shapes, plate, strip/bar, and pipe/tubing
  2. Look up the required minimum average coating grade in Table 1 based on material category and base steel thickness, not a single blanket value
  3. Note that A123 sets minimums only — there is no maximum coating thickness requirement, so heavier coatings are not a nonconformance by themselves
  4. Apply the 2024 edition's added guidance for forgings/castings and its new 'intended use' definition when those items are involved
  5. Coordinate acceptance testing/measurement locations with the galvanizer before parts are dipped, not after
