Achieve OSHA HazCom (1910.1200) SDS compliance for cleaning chemicals used by a BSC

Steps

1. Confirm on osha.gov/hazcom the current status of the Hazard Communication Standard, including the 2024 update aligning labels/SDS with GHS Revision 7 (with some Revision 8 elements) and any compliance-date extensions in effect.
2. As of this writing, OSHA issued a January 15, 2026 final rule extending several 2024-rule compliance deadlines by about four months (e.g., employer training/labeling/written-program deadlines moved from July 20, 2026 to November 20, 2026) — verify the current deadlines directly on osha.gov before committing to a compliance date.
3. Maintain a complete, current SDS binder (physical or electronic, accessible to all shifts) for every hazardous cleaning chemical on site, obtained from the manufacturer/distributor.
4. Ensure all shipped containers carry compliant GHS labels (product identifier, signal word, hazard/precautionary statements, pictograms, supplier identification) and replace any non-conforming legacy labels.
5. Train employees on the hazard communication program, including how to read labels/SDS and locate the written HazCom program, and document training dates.
6. Track the applicable compliance dates for the BSC's role (employer vs. manufacturer/distributor/importer) since deadlines differ by role in the supply chain.
