Documented steps Ensure you are logged in as a team admin (or owner) of the organization Create a team under an org by prefixing the team name with the scope: npm team create @org:newteam Confirm success by the '+@org:newteam' message Destroy a team with npm team destroy @org:newteam — be aware you cannot remove the built-in 'developers' team Grant the team permissions on scoped packages via npm access (npm team itself does not handle package permissions) Provide an OTP with --otp <code> if 2FA is enabled in auth-and-writes mode, otherwise npm runs an interactive second-factor flow
Known gotchas Teams must always be fully qualified as @scope:team — the colon separator is required You must be a team admin to create/destroy teams; ordinary org members can only list The default 'developers' team cannot be removed Organization creation and admin membership management are done on the npm website, not the CLI
