Steps
Build the physical N2K network and bridge it to a computer or network using a Maretron USB100 (direct USB) or IPG100 (network-attached, optional cloud connectivity) gateway
Install N2KView vessel monitoring/control software on a PC, Maretron display hardware, or the Maretron Black Box
For dedicated instrument displays, configure a DSM250 or DSM410, using Maretron's free demo/simulation software to evaluate features before purchase
For raw data logging without an API, deploy a VDR100 Vessel Data Recorder, which records every message transmitted on the N2K network to solid-state storage
Extract recorded data from the VDR100 using the free N2KExtractor utility, selecting specific data and time ranges and exporting to a comma-delimited CSV file
If cloud access is needed, enable Maretron Cloud Services on the IPG100 under an approved contract so N2KView clients can connect over the internet
Known gotchas
N2KView licensing is per simultaneous running instance regardless of which hardware or platform it runs on; running it in two places at once requires a second license
The free N2KView mobile app still requires a network path to an N2K gateway (IPG100/USB100) to show live data; the free download alone provides no functionality without hardware
There is no public REST or HTTP API for N2KView, N2KServer, or the DSM250/410; data export means either the VDR100 plus N2KExtractor CSV workflow or reading raw NMEA 2000 PGNs directly off the bus
