Steps

1. Confirm whether the jurisdiction has adopted the International Existing Building Code (IEBC); ACI 562 is designed to work with the IEBC but can also function as a stand-alone code where no existing building code has been adopted.
2. Follow the code's assessment sequence: condition evaluation, identification of deficiencies, and determination of the structure's current load-carrying capacity before any repair design begins.
3. Apply the code's minimum requirements for repair/rehabilitation design of structural concrete members and systems, distinguishing between life-safety-driven repairs and durability-driven repairs.
4. Document the quality-assurance provisions the code requires during construction of the repair (inspection, testing, and acceptance criteria) so the repair contractor's work can be verified against the design.
5. Coordinate the ACI 562 assessment with any locally mandated condition-assessment report (e.g., NYC QPSI report or NY State Part 1203 report) so the engineering findings satisfy both the code's technical requirements and the AHJ's filing requirements.
