Steps

1. Identify the required concrete surface profile (CSP) for the specific repair material/coating being applied, using ICRI 310.2R's CSP 1 (nearly flat) through CSP 10 (very rough, amplitude greater than 1/4 in.) classification system.
2. Reference ICRI Guideline 310.2R ('Selecting and Specifying Concrete Surface Preparation for Sealers, Coatings, Polymer Overlays, and Concrete Repair,' current edition 310.2R-2013) to match the surface preparation method (shot blasting, scarifying, scabbling, etc.) to the coating or overlay manufacturer's substrate requirements — do not cite the older CSI-MasterFormat-style '03732' designation, which is retired and no longer how ICRI catalogs or sells the document.
3. Where corrosion mitigation is part of the repair scope, reference ICRI Technical Guideline No. 510.1 ('Guide for Electrochemical Techniques to Mitigate the Corrosion of Steel for Reinforced Concrete Structures') to evaluate applicable options (e.g., cathodic protection).
4. Have the condition survey (chain-drag/sounding, half-cell potential, chloride sampling) drive the repair-area boundaries before specifying saw-cut perimeters for individual patch areas.
