Steps

  1. Select the correct NMEA 2000 variant of the sensor (e.g. a DST800 depth/speed/temperature transducer or a WeatherStation WX unit for wind/barometric/GPS-compass data), since these smart sensors compute and output finished data directly onto the bus
  2. Install per the Owner's Guide and Installation Instructions, covering mechanical mounting and thru-hull orientation for depth/speed sensors or mast siting for weather units
  3. Connect via the standard M12 NMEA 2000 drop cable into a certified backbone, carefully counting termination resistors since only two are allowed on the whole bus and some longer WeatherStation cables have one built in
  4. If both an NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 speed source exist simultaneously, expect the NMEA 2000 data to take priority per Airmar's documented behavior
  5. Calibrate speed factor, depth offset, and wind alignment through whichever NMEA 2000-capable display or MFD is on the network, since Airmar sensors have no standalone PC configuration utility of their own
