Steps
Identify the project's occupancy risk category and whether it is high-rise, Risk Category III/IV, or a Group R fire area with occupant load over 250 — the IBC 2024 triggers for special inspection of firestopping.
Confirm the through-penetration and membrane-penetration firestop systems are tested/listed per IBC 714.4.1.2 and 714.5.1.2, and fire-resistant joint/perimeter systems per 715.3.1 and 715.4.
If a trigger applies, require special inspection under IBC 1705.18: penetration firestops per ASTM E2174 (1705.18.1) and joint systems per ASTM E2393 (1705.18.2).
Confirm the special inspection agency and statement of special inspections are filed with the AHJ before permit issuance.
