Steps
When a customer mentions a recall, ask for the recall number/RecallID if known
Query https://www.saferproducts.gov/RestWebServices/Recall?format=json&RecallID={id} to pull the full record for that specific recall
Read the Remedies array to explain exactly what CPSC/manufacturer offered (free repair kit, refund, replacement) rather than quoting standard repair work
Check the ConsumerContact field for the manufacturer's recall hotline/URL so the customer gets the correct next step instead of paid work on a recalled part
Document in the job record that the recall was disclosed to the customer before any billable work proceeded
Known gotchas
RecallID requires an exact numeric match; partial/fuzzy lookup is not supported for this parameter
Some older recalls predate the SaferProducts.gov database and only appear on the general cpsc.gov recall list, not this API
