Steps

1. Confirm the specific panel profile (standing seam vs. through-fastened/exposed-fastener) has its own UL 580 test report for the actual panel gauge, clip/fastener spacing, and substrate being used — UL 580 results do not transfer across different panel profiles or attachment spacing.
2. Request the UL 580 classification/rating documentation from the panel manufacturer showing the tested assembly (deck type, insulation if any, clip spacing, fastener pattern) matches the field installation being specified.
3. For higher-wind or engineered applications, check whether the project also needs an uplift-pressure calculation under ASTM E1592 (structural performance test) in addition to or instead of the UL 580 pass/fail rating, since UL 580 is a pass/fail classification and does not by itself quantify ultimate structural uplift capacity.
4. Confirm perimeter and corner zone fastening/clip spacing is tightened relative to field-of-roof spacing per the manufacturer's wind-zone installation instructions, since uplift pressures are highest at edges and corners.
5. Verify the tested substrate (solid deck vs. purlins) in the UL 580 report matches the actual roof deck construction, since a rating tested over solid decking does not automatically apply to open purlin framing or vice versa.
