Perform the 5-year standpipe system flow test and hydrostatic test

Steps

  1. Determine standpipe class/type (automatic wet, automatic dry, manual wet, manual dry, semiautomatic dry) since test requirements differ by type
  2. For automatic standpipes, flow water at the hydraulically most remote hose valve to confirm required flow and residual pressure at system demand, consulting the AHJ if that outlet isn't practical to flow
  3. For manual standpipes and semiautomatic dry standpipes (including FDC piping), hydrostatically test at 200 psi for 2 hours, or 50 psi above system max pressure where max exceeds 150 psi
  4. Separately hydrostatically test the FDC-to-check-valve piping at 150 psi for 2 hours at least once every 5 years
  5. Compare flow-test results to the original hydraulic design/acceptance test to identify degraded supply or obstruction
  6. Restore the system, notify the monitoring station, and document results
