Steps
Contact dtbe@davey.com to request API access; Davey provides a unique API key after a testing phase
Sign the required API agreement/contract before using the service in production — this is a paid, metered service
Submit tree attributes (i-Tree species code such as 'ACSA2' for sugar maple, diameter, height, crown dimensions, location) to the benefits endpoint
Parse the returned benefit estimates (e.g., CO2 removed, stormwater intercepted, pollutants filtered) for display or reporting
Display the required 'Powered by i-Tree' attribution and logo alongside any shown benefit values, per the API agreement
Known gotchas
Not free: Davey bills $0.02 per tree in production after the testing phase, per a signed contract — budget accordingly before integrating at scale
Species list mirrors i-Tree Eco's 7,000+ species, but results are only fully validated for i-Tree Eco locations with completed secondary processing; other locations fall back to US national averages for demonstrative purposes only
Do not confuse this with the standalone i-Tree Eco desktop tool (already covered separately) — this is Davey's hosted, paid API wrapper for individual-tree benefit lookups
