Steps

  1. Email info@itreetools.org to negotiate a paid services contract and receive a unique per-user API key — this is a contract-gated service, not self-serve signup.
  2. Collect required inputs per tree: species code, diameter at breast height (DBH), location, condition class, and crown light exposure (CLE, an input of 0-5 sides).
  3. Submit tree records to the engine at api.itreetools.org (branded 'The Davey Tree Benefits Engine, powered by i-Tree') using your issued API key.
  4. Read back ecosystem-benefit estimates (e.g. pounds of CO2 captured, gallons of stormwater intercepted) already converted to your chosen currency and unit system (metric or imperial).
  5. Track usage against the per-tree fee (roughly $0.02 per tree) and reconcile against your API agreement's billing terms.
