Register for and query PennDOT's RCRS_Event_Data web service to pull live and planned Pennsylvania road-event data for lane-closure monitoring beyond WZDx.
Submit the Data Feed Request Form to obtain HTTP Basic Authentication credentials for the RCRS_Event_Data service
Call the liveEvents method via a standard HTTP GET request to retrieve currently active Pennsylvania road events
Call the plannedEvents method to retrieve scheduled/upcoming road events
Parse the JSON response and map RCRS event/category codes to your internal lane-closure schema, since RCRS uses its own taxonomy distinct from WZDx
Known gotchas
Access requires a manual approval step (Data Feed Request Form) before credentials are issued — this is not a self-serve, instant-signup API
RCRS is PennDOT's own longstanding event-reporting schema, separate from and not formatted as WZDx — expect to build custom field mapping rather than reusing WZDx parsing logic
liveEvents and plannedEvents are separate calls with separate freshness characteristics; a closure that has started may briefly still appear in 'planned' results during the transition window
