Steps
Query the Socrata dataset 'Work Zone Data Feed Registry' (resource id 69qe-yiui) at https://data.transportation.gov/resource/69qe-yiui.json
Filter/select records for the state or agency of interest; each row lists a feed's producer, feed URL, and WZDx spec version
Pass a Socrata app token via the X-App-Token header to avoid throttling on repeated queries
Fetch the feed URL returned for a chosen producer to retrieve the live WZDx GeoJSON feed
Confirm the feed's declared spec version (v2.0-v4.2) before parsing fields, since schemas differ by version
Known gotchas
Registry entries go stale — a listed feed URL can 404 or the producer may have stopped publishing; check the feed's own metadata after fetching, not just the registry row
The registry only returns metadata about feeds, not work-zone data itself — a second request to the feed URL is required to get actual GeoJSON events
WZDx adoption is voluntary and the registry is incomplete; many state/local DOTs are simply absent
