Ensure scaffold erection, moving, dismantling, or alteration is properly supervised per OSHA requirements

Steps

1. Confirm a competent person qualified specifically in scaffold erection, moving, dismantling, or alteration supervises and directs the work (1926.451(f)(7)).
2. Restrict the actual erection/dismantling/alteration work to employees who are experienced and trained, and who are specifically selected for the task by that competent person.
3. Confirm those employees have received the erector-specific training required under 1926.454(b), distinct from general scaffold-user training.
4. Maintain fall protection for erectors/dismantlers per the applicable provisions during the process itself, not just once the scaffold is in service.
5. Re-verify supervision requirements any time the scaffold configuration changes mid-project (e.g., height increase, conversion between scaffold types).
