Steps

  1. Fully plank or deck each working-level platform between the front uprights and guardrail supports per 1926.451(b)(1)
  2. Keep the gap between adjacent plank units, and between the platform and uprights, to 1 inch or less; document any wider-space justification, capped at 9.5 inches
  3. When overlapping planks to extend platform length, overlap only over supports and by at least 12 inches unless the planks are nailed or otherwise restrained
  4. When abutting (not overlapping) planks instead, rest each abutted end on a separate support surface
  5. Verify each plank's maximum span rating against the actual support spacing before use
