Steps
Go to sgcc.org/product-search, which offers searches by Licensee (alphabetical), Plant, SGCC Number, Country, State, or Product Type
Search using the SGCC number etched on the glass or the manufacturer/plant name printed on the shipping documentation
Open the 'Record of Compliance Testing' that appears for the matched SGCC number to confirm current standing and the standard tested (ANSI Z97.1 and/or CPSC 16 CFR 1201)
Note the July 1, 2024 protocol change for laminated glass: new SGCC numbers were issued for existing laminated certifications, so an older number may need direct confirmation from SGCC (sgcc@amscert.com) if it is not found in the current directory
Cross-check the plant against 'Plants with Certified Products' if the product-level search returns no result
Known gotchas
SGCC certifies the product/plant combination, not a general manufacturer brand — a valid number from one plant does not vouch for the same product line made at a different plant
Post-2024 laminated glass numbering changes mean an SGCC number found on older field documentation may no longer resolve directly in the online search and requires manual verification with SGCC
