Steps
Recognize that broker visibility into a carrier's Motive-tracked truck goes through Motive Marketplace's Verified Carrier integration, not a direct broker-issued Motive API key
Have the carrier complete Verified Carrier setup in Motive Marketplace, which links their Motive fleet to the requesting broker/platform
Once verified, consume tracking/location data through the marketplace-connected app rather than developer.gomotive.com's general fleet-management API surface, which is scoped to the fleet owner
If you operate the intermediary marketplace app yourself, register on developer.gomotive.com's Developer Portal for the relevant API scopes and review current endpoint docs there, since Motive has updated its API documentation format recently
Design for partial fleets: not every carrier a broker works with will have completed Verified Carrier setup, so treat Motive-based tracking as opportunistic coverage, not universal
Known gotchas
Motive's API documentation format changed recently per their own help center 'API Documentation Update' notice - confirm you're referencing the current developer.gomotive.com docs rather than an archived version
As with Samsara, the fleet/carrier owns the Motive account and data-sharing relationship; a broker cannot simply request a Motive API key for a carrier's trucks without the carrier completing the Verified Carrier flow
