  1. Confirm the current rated capacity information required to be available in the cab covers the specific operating radii, boom angles, boom length/configuration, and jib settings that will be used, per 1926.1417 on osha.gov
  2. Before beginning a lift approaching a significant percentage of the equipment's rated capacity at the radius to be used, use a load weighing device, load moment indicator, rated capacity indicator, or rated capacity limiter to check the load weight, per the standard's threshold
  3. Determine load weight from a source recognized by the industry (manufacturer data, calculation from known dimensions/weight-per-foot, or another equally reliable method) before proceeding if the threshold is met
  4. Have the competent person adjust equipment and operations for wind, ice, snow, or other conditions affecting stability and rated capacity
  5. Never operate the equipment in excess of its rated capacity as shown on the applicable load chart for the actual configuration in use
