Verify Crane/Attachment Operator Certification for Demolition Work

Steps

1. Confirm every crane operator on the demolition site holds current certification for the specific crane type/capacity being operated, as required under OSHA's crane operator certification rule (29 CFR 1926 Subpart CC).
2. Separately verify the operator has undergone a documented employer task- and equipment-specific evaluation for the demolition-specific work (wrecking ball, hydraulic breaker, high-reach attachment) — certification alone does not cover this.
3. Keep the task-specific evaluation documentation available on the jobsite for the specific operator, equipment, and task combination in use.
4. Track certification expiration (5-year renewal cycle) against the project schedule and confirm renewal (written and practical exam) is completed before a certification lapses mid-project.
5. For non-crane demolition attachments (excavator-mounted shears, crushers, high-reach booms), document operator training and experience even though NCCCO certification may not directly apply, to support OSHA compliance.
