Steps
Assign a designated competent person to visually inspect scaffolds and components for defects before each work shift, per 1926.451(f)(3)
Re-inspect after any occurrence that could affect structural integrity, such as a storm, vehicle impact, or dropped load
Check foundation, planking, guardrails, access, bracing, tiebacks/outriggers, and fall-protection anchorage during each inspection
Record inspection results including date, time, inspector name, findings, and corrective actions, using a consistent company log or tag system since OSHA does not mandate a specific recordkeeping format
Remove the scaffold from service or restrict access immediately if a hazard is found, until corrected by the competent person
