Steps

1. Go to AWS's Certification Search / QuikCheck portal (cloudweb2.aws.org/certifications/ or my.aws.org/certification/quickcheck) — this is the American Welding Society (AWS), a nonprofit standards body, not Amazon Web Services.
2. Search the National Registry of Certified Welders by certification number plus the individual's last name (both are required; name alone won't return a match).
3. Confirm the credential type (CWI, SCWI, CW, CAWI) and check the expiration/status date shown — CWI credentials require 9-year recertification and continuing education.
4. For CWI/SCWI, check whether the specific code endorsement you need (e.g., D1.1 structural) is listed if the job requires code-specific inspection authority.
5. Note that beginning January 15, 2026, AWS stopped accepting paper certification applications — all new applications go through My AWS Portal, but this does not change the public verification lookup itself.
