Steps

1. Use AWS's free QuikCheck tool at cloudweb2.aws.org/Certifications/Search, entering the certification number from the individual's wallet card/certificate plus their last name
2. Confirm QuikCheck returns the certification number, name, and expiration date — treat expiration date as the authoritative currency check, not the physical card alone
3. For badge-based verification, note AWS also issues digital badges through Credly (credly.com/org/american-welding-society) for credentials like CWI, SCWI, CWEng, and CWS; a shared badge link can be clicked to verify authenticity directly with Credly
4. Cross-check the certification level using the number-prefix key on the QuikCheck page (e.g., 1=CWI, 4=CAWI, 8=SCWI, E=CWE) to confirm the level matches what was claimed
5. AWS explicitly recommends confirming identity with a government-issued photo ID in addition to the QuikCheck result, since QuikCheck alone does not verify the physical person
