Steps
Confirm which wire ropes on the equipment (running and standing) fall under 1926.1413's shift and monthly inspection requirements
Perform the required shift inspection of all visible rope each shift per 1926.1413(a)
Perform the monthly inspection covering the same items, and include any deficiency the annual-inspection qualified person flagged for ongoing monitoring
Document the monthly inspection per the requirements referenced in 1926.1412(e)(3) and retain records for the required retention period
Remove wire rope from service if the inspection identifies a condition requiring corrective action, and do not use it again until corrected and reinspected
Known gotchas
Wire rope inspection documentation requirements cross-reference 1926.1412(e)(3) rather than standing alone in 1926.1413 — check both sections together
Only rope that is visible during the inspection can be evaluated that way; sections that become exposed only during operation may need to be checked as they are exposed
