Steps

  1. Identify all energy sources present at the bay - electrical (powered doors/restraints), hydraulic (levelers, restraints), pneumatic, and stored/gravitational energy (raised dockboards, springs, overhead doors).
  2. Isolate and lock out the hydraulic power unit and bleed down residual hydraulic pressure before opening any hydraulic leveler component.
  3. Engage the leveler's mechanical service/strut support before working underneath or inside the pit, in addition to electrical/hydraulic lockout.
  4. Never attempt spring replacement or pit-clearing while the leveler mechanism is energized or without proper compression tooling and training.
  5. Verify a zero-energy state before allowing hands or tools into the mechanism, per your written energy control procedure.
