Steps
Contact Spire (now part of Kpler's maritime data unit alongside MarineTraffic and FleetMon) to scope a data plan and request a data sample to validate schema/coverage before committing.
Provision API credentials per Spire's onboarding process and configure the delivery mechanism (REST pull, streaming feed, or a data-integration platform connector such as Meroxa's Spire Maritime AIS source).
Query or subscribe by geographic bounding box, MMSI list, or vessel-type filter (e.g., fishing vessels per AIS ship-type codes) to scope message volume.
Parse returned AIS position/static reports (MMSI, lat/lon, speed, course, ship type, timestamp) and de-duplicate/interpolate gaps between terrestrial and satellite reception.
Cross-reference historical archive data (dating back to 2010) if backfilling analyses of past vessel behavior or dark-vessel detection.
