Steps
Authenticate with your Open API access token, then create webhook subscriptions via the Open API's webhook endpoints (subscriptions are managed only through the API, not the dashboard).
Choose which event families to subscribe to — reservations, messages, payments, listings, calendars, tasks, or guests — each documented with its own payload shape.
Implement your receiving endpoint to acknowledge quickly, since Guesty performs up to two delivery attempts within about one hour before marking a delivery failed.
For reservation/message webhooks, use the reservation ID in the payload to fetch the reservation, then use its conversation ID to retrieve the full message thread.
Handle events that reference not-yet-seen entities by returning a retry-able error status, since related webhooks (e.g., a message before its parent reservation) can arrive out of order.
Known gotchas
With only two retries inside roughly one hour, a longer outage on your side means permanently missed events — pair webhooks with a reconciliation job against the corresponding GET endpoints.
Webhook subscription management is Open-API-only; there is no dashboard toggle, so subscription setup must be scripted as part of onboarding each account.
Order is not guaranteed across related entity webhooks — design handlers to tolerate and retry on out-of-order delivery rather than assuming parent-before-child ordering.
