Confirm the filer is a DOB-approved Elevator Agency, and that the inspecting company is not the same firm as the building's maintenance contractor (a required independence rule)
Log into DOB NOW: Safety (mandatory online filing since September 17, 2018) to submit the periodic inspection/test report
Confirm the filing deadline after the inspection date (a defined day count) and, separately, the correction deadline for any defects noted
If a correction extension is needed, submit the extension application demonstrating practical difficulty before the standard correction deadline lapses
File the Affirmation of Correction within its required window once defects are fixed, and confirm it posted correctly in DOB NOW before considering the matter closed
Known gotchas
DOB NOW: Safety is the transactional filing system — it's a different surface from the public Socrata/Open Data elevator datasets (Safety Compliance, ELV1, Active Violations); a clean dataset snapshot doesn't confirm a filing was actually accepted in DOB NOW
