Create a SAM.gov account and request a public API key from the Account Details page (free; public-tier access is capped at 10 requests/day, registered-entity tier at 1,000/day).
Call GET https://api.sam.gov/prod/opportunities/v2/search with api_key, a relevant naicsCode for crane/heavy-equipment rental or specialty trade contracting, a postedFrom/postedTo date range, and ptype=o for solicitations.
Page through results with the limit/offset parameters and inspect each opportunity's title, solicitationNumber, and description for crane/rigging/heavy-lift scope language.
Fetch the resourceLinks in each matching result to pull the full solicitation attachments (specs, wage determinations).
Re-run the query on a recurring schedule, since new opportunities post continuously and older ones close.
Known gotchas
The unregistered public API key tier is capped at 10 requests/day — sufficient for scheduled polling but not interactive bulk searching.
