Steps
Select a NOAA-approved eVTR software option from the Greater Atlantic Region's published list of Electronic Vessel Trip Reporting Software Options.
Install/configure the chosen app on an onboard device and link it to the vessel's federal permit number.
Start a new electronic trip report at the start of each trip and record required fields (area fished, gear, species, dealer) as required by the applicable fishery management plan.
Submit the completed eVTR electronically within 48 hours of the end of the trip, per Greater Atlantic reporting regulations.
Retain a local copy/confirmation of submission in case a regional office requests resubmission or verification.
Known gotchas
The 48-hour submission deadline and required data fields are set by regulation and can vary by fishery/FMP within the same region — verify against the current rule for the specific permit held.
Not all eVTR apps are interchangeable between regions/programs; using an app not on the approved list for a given fishery can result in a reporting violation even if the data itself is complete.
