Steps

1. Determine building height and location: a scaffold permit is required for scaffolding on any building in the Central Business District over 40 feet, or any building over 80 feet elsewhere in the city.
2. If under those thresholds, confirm a building permit is not required for the scaffold specifically.
3. Before erecting scaffolding under a permit, obtain proof of a Building Commissioner-approved scaffold safety training course for the operator.
4. Obtain commercial general liability insurance covering erection, disassembly, and use of the scaffolding.
5. Submit a schedule of prospective scaffolding work for the building for the coming year, plus emergency contact information, as part of the application.
6. Track the permit expiration date and file for an extension before it lapses, or remove the scaffolding.
