Schedule routine pumping before the ground freezes where possible - pumping in frozen conditions is significantly harder, especially if the access riser is not brought to grade
If winter access is unavoidable, locate risers/access points before the ground is fully frozen or use documented site records rather than probing frozen soil
Inspect the visible portions of the system for open, broken, or uncapped risers/inspection pipes that let cold air into the system, since these are common freeze points
Avoid the common but harmful 'fixes' - do not add antifreeze, salt, or septic additives, and do not pump effluent onto the ground surface
