Steps

  1. For general steel erection activity on a walking/working surface with an unprotected side or edge more than 15 feet above a lower level, provide guardrails, safety nets, personal fall arrest, positioning devices, or fall restraint per 1926.760(a).
  2. For connectors working more than two stories or 30 feet above a lower level, require conventional fall protection (fall arrest, restraint, positioning device, or equivalent) per 1926.760(b).
  3. For connectors working above 15 and up to 30 feet, at minimum provide a personal fall arrest system (or other allowable fall protection) and require the connector to have the tie-off equipment on and available, per 1926.760(b).
  4. Where a controlled decking zone (CDZ) is used during initial deck installation between 15 and 30 feet, confirm the zone is no more than 90 ft wide by 90 ft deep from the leading edge, does not exceed 3,000 sq ft of unsecured decking, and has clearly marked boundaries per 1926.760(c).
  5. Confirm final deck attachment and shear connector installation are not performed by employees working inside an active CDZ.
