Steps

  1. Register for a 2-day PHTA Certified Pool & Spa Operator (CPO) course through an authorized instructor, findable via PHTA's Find a CPO Course tool on phta.org.
  2. Complete the coursework and pass the exam administered by the instructor at the end of the course.
  3. Note that PHTA's current policy makes CPO certification valid for five years from the end of the month of issuance (e.g., a certification issued in a given month expires at the end of that month five years later).
  4. To recertify before expiration: take the CPO Fusion course (self-paced portion) plus attend the instructor-led second day and exam; if already expired, retake the full 2-day course.
  5. Contact PHTA (service@phta.org) for questions about a specific certificate's exact expiration date.
