Steps
Create a catalog and register a data source — either a hosted feed URL ingested on a recurring schedule, or a supported platform integration (Shopify, WooCommerce, Adobe Commerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud)
For direct API management, use the Catalogs endpoints to create/update/delete individual items or batches rather than waiting for the next scheduled feed pull
Include Pinterest's required product attributes (id, title, availability, price, link, image_link, etc.), since incomplete rows are excluded from ad eligibility
Create shopping ads using the Catalog sales objective, referencing the catalog and any product-group filters to scope the campaign
Check catalog processing status/diagnostics to confirm items ingested successfully rather than assuming success from the upload call alone
Keep any hosted feed URL reliably available every day when using scheduled ingestion, since Pinterest re-fetches it on that cadence
Known gotchas
A hosted feed URL that's briefly unavailable at the scheduled fetch time silently stales the catalog rather than raising an alert
Frequently-changing attributes like price and availability are better handled via direct item-level API updates than waiting on the next scheduled feed cycle
Ad eligibility is evaluated per item, so a catalog can partially succeed with some products serving and others silently excluded for missing fields
