Steps
Enable 'Portal access' on the target user record so the account can be issued a credential rather than being admin-managed only
Choose an issuance mode: Invite-based (the user receives an email/SMS invite to set up their own mobile credential) or Sign-In-only mode
For guest-style access, note Alta can also generate temporary Cloud Credentials delivered via email or SMS without requiring the mobile app
Trigger the credential issuance for the user's chosen mode and confirm delivery through the configured channel
Verify credential status changes to active in the Alta admin console before relying on it for entry
Known gotchas
Exact request/response schema for credential issuance is behind Avigilon's partner-gated docs login — don't assume a specific endpoint path without confirming access
Invite-based and Sign-In-only are distinct modes with different UX; picking the wrong one changes how the credential is delivered
Cloud Credentials (no-app guest passes) are a separate mechanism from a full mobile-app credential
