Steps
Confirm drip edge is being installed at both eaves and rake edges of the shingle roof — it is required at both locations under current IRC roof-assemblies provisions.
Verify the metal extends not less than 1/4 inch below the roof sheathing and back up onto the deck not less than 2 inches.
Confirm adjacent drip-edge sections are overlapped not less than 2 inches.
Check mechanical fastening is spaced at no more than 12 inches on center, using fasteners meeting the same corrosion-resistance/type requirements as the shingle fasteners.
Verify underlayment sequencing: underlayment goes over the drip edge at eaves but under the drip edge at rakes — a commonly reversed detail that fails inspection.
Known gotchas
The underlayment-over-at-eave, underlayment-under-at-rake sequencing is frequently installed backwards in the field — this is one of the most common re-roof inspection failure points, not a minor detail.
