Steps

  1. Submit fire alarm shop drawings/plans for AHJ plan review and obtain the permit before beginning rough-in work.
  2. Keep approved plans on site during installation and coordinate device installation timing with construction milestones — for example, don't install smoke detectors until final cleanup/dust-generating work is complete.
  3. Perform 100% pre-testing of every initiating device, notification appliance, and control function internally before scheduling the AHJ's final/acceptance inspection.
  4. Schedule and complete the formal acceptance test with the AHJ present (or per their witnessed/documented test policy), verifying performance against the locally adopted NFPA 72 edition.
  5. Submit a completed Record of Completion and acceptance test documentation to the AHJ/fire code official to close out the permit.
