Steps

  1. Open the public MWI portal at https://mnwellindex.web.health.state.mn.us/
  2. Search by Minnesota Unique Well Number if known; otherwise search by address, owner name, Township-Range-Section, or use the interactive map/zoom interface
  3. Use TEXT search mode for a plain-text record or MAP search mode to see the well plotted geographically
  4. Cross-reference construction depth, geologic log, and static water level against the underlying County Well Index (CWI), jointly maintained by the Minnesota Geological Survey and MN Dept. of Health
  5. If no record is found, consider the well may predate 1974 licensing/reporting requirements rather than assuming it doesn't exist; contact MDH Well Management at health.wells@state.mn.us
