Steps
Set up a loyalty program (profile-based or card-based) and its ledger/subledger structure, plus point activation and expiry rules, in Campaign Manager.
For card-based programs, link the loyalty card to a customer profile via the loyalty-cards linking endpoint before querying balances for that profile.
Call the Integration API's get-loyalty-balances operation to retrieve Active, Pending, Spent, Expired, and Negative point totals for a customer, optionally filtered by date.
Call the list-loyalty-transactions operation to retrieve the underlying addition/subtraction transaction log (defaults to the most recent 50 entries).
For awarding points automatically, use a campaign rule with an addLoyaltyPoints effect; for bulk manual adjustments, use the Management API's CSV-based loyalty points import rather than assuming a single-transaction endpoint.
Known gotchas
A discrete single-customer add/deduct-points API call is not clearly documented separately from rule effects and CSV import — verify directly against the current Management API reference before assuming such an endpoint exists.
Deducting more points than a customer's active balance only succeeds if Negative balance is explicitly enabled on the program; otherwise the deduction is capped.
Tier re-evaluation for profile-based programs runs on a periodic (roughly 30-minute) cadence, not instantly after a points transaction.
