Identify the project's IECC climate zone per the code's climate zone map/table
Locate the Insulation and Fenestration Requirements by Component table (R402.1.2 in recent editions) for the applicable IECC edition and read minimum R-values and maximum U-factors/SHGC for that zone
Confirm whether the jurisdiction adopted the base IECC table or amended specific R-value or U-factor entries
Apply the rule that installed R-value must not be less than the table value where cavity depth is less than the insulation's labeled thickness
Cross-check mass-wall or below-grade U-factor limits if the assembly type isn't standard wood-frame construction
