Steps

  1. Visually inspect drain covers/grates for cracking, missing screws, looseness, or other visible damage that could indicate a compromised suction entrapment barrier.
  2. Check that any required cover label/date stamp is present and legible, noting it for the record even though verifying full code compliance (rating capacity, dual-drain/SVRS presence) is a separate certification task outside a routine visual check.
  3. Confirm skimmer equalizer lines and other suction fittings are covered as expected and not obviously damaged or missing covers.
  4. If a cover is cracked, loose, missing, or past any legible replacement/testing date, treat that drain as an immediate hazard: isolate or shut down that suction line and close the pool to swimmers until it's repaired.
  5. Notify the property owner/operator in writing immediately, and document the observation and notification in the service log.
