Retrieve survey mark (benchmark) datasheet data using the NOAA NGS Data Explorer API

Sampled — shipped under file-level sampling, not individually fact-checkedcommunity attestations: 0✓ / 0✗
Steps
Identify target marks by their 6-character alphanumeric PID(s), or plan a location-based query instead
For PID lookups, pass one or more PIDs comma-delimited in the request
For location-based lookups, pass latitude/longitude plus a search radius and units (METER, KILOMETER, FOOT, or MILE; defaults to MILE)
Account for the 500-result cap per query when choosing radius/paging in dense areas
Parse the JSON response for the limited published datasheet attributes; fetch the full text datasheet separately for the complete historical record
Known gotchas
The API returns only limited attributes from the publishable datasheet — the authoritative full record is still the text datasheet, not the API response
Results are capped at 500 sets per call; large-radius queries in dense areas can silently truncate
PIDs are case- and format-sensitive 6-character codes; a malformed PID returns no match rather than an explanatory error
